We Buy Cars With Problems

Paperwork problems, smog issues, expired tags, and fixable cars are the deals big national sites often pass on. They are the ones we built this for.

The offer we make is the offer you get for 7 days, when the car matches its description. If hidden or unreported damage is found at pickup, any adjustment is shown with photo evidence before you decide.

The problems we price in

Title problems

Lost title, out-of-state title, lien sale paperwork, or a title that is not in your name. Disclose it in the form and we will explain the correct next step before scheduling.

Failed smog

A car that will not pass smog is not a rejection here — it is priced as what it is, with the deduction shown up front.

Expired registration

Expired tags are acceptable and priced as a markdown, not a reason to walk away.

Fixable issues

Battery, glass, panels, exterior damage, and other fixable items from the 12-point condition checklist — each one priced in plainly.

Non-running? Read this first

Won't start does not mean won't sell. If the cause is simple or unknown — a dead battery, a starter, a car that sat too long — we inspect it and make an offer. The line is an engine or transmission known to be dead; the honest pages below draw it condition by condition.

Every problem, its own page

Damaged or wrecked

New enough to still carry value? Damage is priced, not disqualifying.

Blown engine

We don't buy a truly blown engine — but a dead battery is not one. Here is how to tell.

Bad transmission

Slipping is early, and early is buyable. Completely gone is the line.

Salvage title

Title in hand, in your name? That is a buying page, not a problem page.

On non-op (PNO)

Parked legally is not stuck — non-op cars transfer without a smog certificate.

Out-of-state title

Moved here with the car? A title or paperwork in hand is routine for us.

Failed inspection

Smog, brake-and-lamp, CHP, VIN — failed inspections are inventory we want.

High mileage

Older Japanese runners are wanted at any mileage.

Fire or flood damage

Contained and documented is one story; submerged is another.

What we buy — problems included

  • Japanese vehicles of any age — Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Subaru hold up in Southern California, and we price them that way.
  • Fixable issues welcome — Battery, glass, panels, and exterior damage from the 12-point checklist — each priced in plainly.
  • Most 2010-and-newer cars — Sedans, SUVs, and vans from any maker, clean or with fixable issues.
  • Trucks of any age — Pickups are the top of our want list — working trucks, high-mileage trucks, Japanese trucks included.

Where the line is

We buy the cars the big guys reject — but we are not a junk buyer. These fall outside this buying program, and we would rather tell you now than waste your time:

  • No working key
  • Blown engine
  • Shot transmission
  • Major structural damage
  • Heavily stripped
  • Trash-filled or severely neglected

Problem-car questions

What vehicles are a good fit?

We prioritize trucks of any age, Japanese vehicles of any age, most 2010-and-newer cars, and vehicles with fixable issues, smog failures, expired registration, or complicated paperwork. Vehicles need a working key; one that won't start is still a fit when the cause is simple or unknown.

What cars do you buy?

We prioritize trucks of any age, Japanese vehicles of any age, and most 2010-and-newer cars. We also consider smog failures, expired registration, complicated paperwork, high mileage, and fixable issues. Vehicles without a working key are not a fit, and neither is a car whose engine or transmission is known to be done, or one with major structural damage. A car that won't start for a simple or unknown reason is a fit — we inspect those and make an offer.

What is a car title, and what paperwork do I need?

The title is the state document that proves who owns the vehicle. For pickup, have the title and a current photo ID ready. If the title is lost, signed by another owner, or has a lien, tell us in the form so we can explain the correct next step before scheduling.

There's an abandoned car on my property. Will you buy it?

We won't buy it — but we will remove it free. An abandoned car usually has no key and no paperwork, a risk no buyer can price; what we offer instead is free removal: our tow takes it away at no charge, you pay nothing and receive no payment, and we handle the lien-sale process afterward. If the car is yours and simply won't run, that is different — send the intake and we will price it.
