The WRX generations we buy
The WRX split from the Impreza name for 2015 with the VA generation, powered by the direct-injected FA20 turbo flat-four, while the STI kept the older EJ engine until it was dropped after 2021. The current VB generation arrived for 2022 with a 2.4-liter FA24 turbo engine and no STI version.

Common WRX problems we still buy
Clutch and throw-out bearing wear
Manual WRXs driven hard, launched, or used in heavy traffic commonly need clutch work, and noisy throw-out bearings are a documented complaint. A slipping clutch is one of the most frequent reasons these cars are sold.
Ringland failure on modified EJ engines
STI models with the EJ257 engine are known for piston ringland cracking, particularly on tuned or hard-driven cars, leading to oil consumption and lost compression. Rebuild costs are substantial, so affected cars often change hands as projects.
Carbon buildup on direct-injected engines
The FA20 and FA24 engines use direct injection without port injectors to wash the intake valves, so carbon deposits build up and can cause rough idle and power loss. Walnut blasting is the usual remedy.
CVT limitations on automatic models
WRXs equipped with the optional CVT draw complaints about shift behavior and are less tolerant of added power than the manual. Transmission problems on a performance car often tip an owner toward selling.
