Air-cooled Volkswagen buyers
Sell a Classic Volkswagen
Air-cooled only: the Bus leads this shorter page, with the Karmann Ghia and the Beetle beside it. Complete cars, priced by inspection, picked up free.
The offer we make is the offer you get for 7 days.*
The price holds as long as the vehicle, title, mileage, and condition match what you submitted. If hidden or unreported damage is found at pickup, we’ll make the adjustment and give you a counter-offer on the spot — and the decision is yours.
Tell us about your car
Air-cooled only, and the Bus first
Classic Volkswagen here means one thing: the air-cooled cars. The Bus — Type 2, in its split-window, bay-window, camper, panel, and pickup forms — leads the page, because it is the air-cooled Volkswagen sellers most often have and the one with the broadest following. Four-wheel drive does not apply here; on a Bus, completeness, body condition, and which version it is do the work that specification does elsewhere.
Beside it, two named cars: the Karmann Ghia, coupe and convertible, the prettiest body ever put on this platform, and the Beetle, the car that put Volkswagen in every town in America. A complete, solid example of any of the three is a car we will inspect and price fairly. That is the whole bench — later, water-cooled Volkswagens are a different page of the site and a different conversation.
Condition, stated plainly
We will be as plain about expectations as this page is short. This is a genuine but measured want: we buy air-cooled Volkswagens, and the same rules as our classic car hub decide the number — completeness first, then body condition. Rust matters a great deal on these cars, because it attacks the structure as well as the panels; a Bus or Beetle rusted through is, as with every classic here, the one car we cannot buy.
A complete car that does not run is a different story. The air-cooled flat-four is about as simple as an engine gets, and a complete non-runner — even one with a failed engine — can be bought and overhauled. What we cannot work with is a car picked apart: engine gone, interior gone, trim scattered. Whole car, honest rust read, real offer — that is the deal on this page, no more and no less.
Getting started
Tell us the year, model, and honest condition — including where the rust is and whether the engine is present. We inspect the car where it sits, make an offer from the inspection, and if you accept, you are paid at pickup and we tow it free. No fees, and no need to get it running first.
Classic seller questions
Do you buy water-cooled classic Volkswagens?
This page is air-cooled only — Bus, Karmann Ghia, and Beetle. A later Volkswagen may still be buyable as a regular used car elsewhere on the site; it just is not part of the classic program.
Which air-cooled Volkswagen is most wanted?
The Bus, in any of its forms — campers and earlier split-window trucks draw the strongest interest. Karmann Ghia and Beetle follow, always in proportion to completeness and body condition.
My Beetle is complete but has not run in years. Can you buy it?
Yes — a complete non-runner is welcome, including one with a failed engine, because these engines can be overhauled. A car missing major parts, or rusted through, is the exception.
How does selling work?
Tell us the model, year, and honest condition. We inspect it where it sits in Orange County, make an offer from the inspection, and pay at pickup with free towing if you accept.
